Wild Dog vs. Wild Dog

In 2003, the store named Wild Dog opened in Saugatuck, Michigan featuring products for pets and pet owners, including sweat shirts, t-shirts, hats, mugs and more. The store's owner works diligently with many of the West Michigan animal rescue organizations, including the area humane society and other animal rescue efforts. To date, more than 500 animals which otherwise stood little or no chance have been placed in wonderful homes. A great deal of the profits from the store help fund these rescue efforts.

In 2007, a new restaurant opened in downtown Douglas, Michigan, less than one mile away. When choosing a name for their establishment, they inexplicably chose Wild Dog, and began marketing merchandise with their logo on it, including t-shirts, sweat shirts and hats. (Please scroll down to see the two logos)

When asked if they knew there was already a store named Wild Dog in the area, they replied something to the effect of -

"We know, and we don't care"

Many of the products in the store carry the Wild Dog logo, for which a trademark has been filed and approved by the US Patent and Trademark Office. The restaurant has also created a logo, which is incredibly similar to the established logo used by Wild Dog in Saugatuck. Lawyers were called and letters were sent, all of which have been ignored by the owners of the restaurant.

The owners of the restaurant are in blatant trademark infringement, and have made no effort to acknowledge this or make changes necessary to correct this affront. The store Wild Dog has worked hard for years to connect with the community, hosting several events to benefit animals throughout the year as well as finding homes for hundreds of those animals. As a result of the poor decision making skills shown by the owners of the restaurant, the Wild Dog pet products store has been inundated with phone calls for the restaurant, watched the restaurant spread their products with a logo which is an obvious copy, and has been forced to make the choice to fight this problem in court.

Please show your disappointment in the owners of the Wild Dog Bar and Grille restaurant by letting them know you disapprove of the choice they made. If you choose to patronize their business, please make sure you voice your opinion and stand up for what's right. There is no reason other than lack of creativity, responsibility and judgment for the choice they've made.

Thank you.
